RESOLUTIONS – Easy to make, hard to keep.

It’s a new year and we really want to do better, but it’s January. And in January it’s cold, it’s wet, the nights are long and the days are short. If there is any time when will power might be a bit harder to find, I think it’d be in January.

No longer do you need to rely on will power to make changes. It’s so hard if every biscuit is going to start an argument between two different parts of your mind: “One biscuit won’t matter” “You said No More Biscuits!” Etc. etc…

So this is where Solution Focused thinking, with hypnotherapy, is a different way to make those changes. When our minds we work in this way we don’t have to have those arguments over and over again because the different parts of the brain are working together, all the parts, as it were, singing from the same hymn sheet. All parts of the brain know what the new rules are and BINGO! It just happens.

I can explain to you about the Intellectual Brain, which sets the new agenda, and the Primitive Brain, which wants to play you up (the little monkey). Learning to know how to keep this monkey brain happy is the key to your plan running smoothly, until it becomes the ‘new normal’. Dr Steve Peters, in his witty illustrated book The Chimp Paradox talks about how the Primitive Brain is there to protect us, and to look out for danger, but how this part of the brain mustn’t be allowed to run the show. Believe it or not, he was the professor who helped the British Sky cycling team to attain more than we might ever have believed possible.
Who knows, you also might attain more than you ever believed possible.
