So, let’s imagine you’re trying to learn lines for a play you are in. The Solution Focused approach is a little like focusing your attention on the lines, on where you’ll stands, sit and move on the stage, what you’ll be wearing etc.
In anxiety we have a problem focused approach, and in our theatre analogy that’s like you’re mentally rehearsing ‘What if I forget my lines? What if no one likes the play?’
We inadvertently find ourselves rehearsing what we don’t want.
Don’t worry, we all do this, it’s not your fault. You aren’t ‘broken’. Brains are good at rehearsing danger, that’s what makes humans such good survivors.
Learning safety can be as straightforward as learning relaxation techniques, positive thoughts, positive actions and positive interactions and mentally rehearsing our preferred future.
